US Retail Sales for August

Despite an upbeat headline print, the non-seasonally adjusted US Retail Sales report indicated that activity abnormally declined in August.
Retail sales slipped by 0.4% (NSA) in this middle month of the third quarter, which is on par with the weakest August performance since the pandemic and a divergence from the 2.1% increase that is average for this time of year.
