Canada Labour Force Survey for April

Employment in Canada was fairly upbeat in April, buoyed by an influx of hiring for the federal election, however, strains in the manufacturing segment have started to emerge as the impact of tariffs and general economic uncertainty starts to weigh.

Stripping out the seasonal adjustments, which are irrelevant in this (and any) environment, employment actually jumped by 115,800, or 0.56% in April, which is stronger 0.1% rise that is average for this fourth month of the year (excluding the pandemic, the average April increase is 0.6%).  Read our analysis of the Canada Labour Force Survey, as well as the investment implications within: Canada Labour Force Survey
